A message from Dementia Australia:
In the interests of public safety and that of our clients, staff and supporters, we are postponing the Dementia Australia National Symposium 2020. Travel restrictions have been announced by the Australian Government and the World Health Organisation has declared the COVID-19 virus a pandemic.
We are disappointed to postpone the Symposium, as the national peak body representing Australian’s living with dementia, their families and carers, we must do our part to prevent the spread of the virus.
A key strategic priority for Dementia Australia in the next five years is to work collaboratively to define standards of quality dementia care. We will work with government and industry to promote the adoption of those standards.
This will afford us the best possible chance to influence the way dementia care is provided throughout the aged care sector.
We ran a series of Focus Groups followed by a Consumer Summit to ratify the Communique summarising these standards. The Communique was presented by one of our Dementia Advocates to Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck, Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians. The implications and action items were discussed at a Roundtable.
